Mayberry was one of the few prime time TV shows that displayed true family values borne from a simpler yet much richer time in our recent history. What made it fun to watch, was that it was never preachy. Andy Griffith is one of a handfull of TV personalities that was able to do good, and leave a lasting positive footnote in TV history. That was all ruined when he did a political ad for a candiate in 2008, trying to capitalize on the "Andy of Mayberry" character. It was fun to watch before the ad, now it is just politics. Sad.
