Long before that, they bought Central Electroincs, which made SSB transmitters, that was in the early sixties. And soon after, the dvision disappeared, not enough income but likely nothing that could be translated into more income. Michael Did ok for a while. Gone now. |

I own an old Zenith computer, and a whole slew of old Zenith radios, and one Zenith 21'' screen wood cabinet floor model color TV set I bought in 1965 when I got out of the Army.

Some of them horizontal output tubes cost a pretty penny these days... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Horizontal output tubes are childs play in contrast to the biggest problem in those early Zenith color sets: the flyback transformer. Zenith flybacks, much more than in other brands, tended to develop internal arcing that caused them to eat themselves in spectacular fashion. I've seen several that had nothing left but a burned coil of copper surrounded by the ashes of what used to be the insulation. |

Whenever my Zenith TV set needed repair I would take it to the Wink Radio and TV Repair shop next door to the Jackson Zoo on Capital Street. I haven't plugged it in since before the analog to digital TV switch over. It was still getting a picture, albeit a sort of a slightly darker picture. Google,,, Shipping Wars One of those guys delivered an old restored wooden cabinet color TV set that worked just like new.
