Thanks In Advance Jim Parsons HF-225 is good HF-225E is better. The differences can be seen he http://www.universal-radio.com/catal...xvr/hf225.html I've currently got, and use a Lowe HF-150. And it's a fine radio. Quiet. Good audio. Very nice performance with a decent antenna, although, with the preamp switched in, sensitivity on a whip is nothing to sneeze at. What you'll like about the HF-225 is the low noise floor, the very good selectivity, the small desk footprint, and the reasonably simple operation. Cosmetically, it's kind of plain. But this is more than made up for by it's performance. The Europa model has higher spsc filters, and a factory installed FM and Sync. These were optional extras on the base model 225, and not easily found, if at all. If you can find an HF-225, take it. You'll never regret it. Superceded in the line by HF-250 which is a little more visually compelling, with moderate improvements in performance over HF-225. You'll pay about $500, more or less for either of them. Buy carefully, and get a hands-on evaluation before you drop your cash. For about the same money, you can find an Drake R8, or R8A. Or one of my favorites: Ten-Tex RX-350/D. But you'll not regret the Lowe. Besides, everyone should have at least one John Thorpe radio. p |

Newsgroups are not a playground. If you have something to say, say it. Don't go randomly "reposting" old messages. Don't reply to old messages, if you have something important to say, then start with a fresh post. Turnover is high, so virtually nobody from even a few years ago is still reading the newsgroup, and given many of the posts, are often one time only, they post and are never heard from again. Just because google still hasnt' fixed the bug to allow replies to old messages doesn't mean one should reply. The original poster has long ago given up on the matter if they didn't get an answer, and yet simply posting some 14 year old message leaves out the context of what others said at the time. Much of the time, though not this one, there is a long thread going with the original post, but the clueless who think google is usnet are the only ones who see the old emssages, since they've long expired elsewhere. Michael I do not see a serious problem here. Even after 14 years the subject matter is still valid, since this is a REAL on the topic question. |
