Antenna
Just bought a Realistic DX 440 on Ebay and have discovered SSB. I
understand that my antenna wire should be as long and high as possible with no particular configuration. Correct ? Also...what about grounding ? Please respond to group. Thanx Egg Salad 85032 USA |

That is a Sangean ATS-803A and there is a lot of info about it. Be careful when connecting long wires to portable radios, it's easy to fry the front end of the radio. |

Thanx Egg Salad 85032 USA You can obtain a reel out antenna that will plug into the antenna jack he http://universal-radio.com/catalog/sw_ant/3184.html Just plug it in and reel it out. The higher you can get the antenna the better. In the evenings you can tune in the ham radio 75 meter band 3.750-4.000 MHz to test it out. Alos do a search for VOLMET stations on google and you can tune into aircraft weather broadcasting and comms. 11.175 MHz is the USAF SSB aircraft frequency. -- Best Regards, Keith http://home.comcast.net/~kilowattradio/ |

This radio is sensitive enough that your problems are going to be more signal overload than signal deficiency. So, too much wire will create problems. In some areas, 20 feet can be too much. Orientation of the wire is not important in most cases, but experimentation will determine whether there is a benefit to any particularly A good earth ground will help to keep noise low. As will a well filtered and bypassed power supply. This is actually a pretty good radio. I had the Sangean badged model, and enjoyed it immensely. |
