Just dropped in to see what's up. I have just about given up SWLing due to a combination of local noise, bad propagation, and station closures (never thought I'd see V of Russia terminating broadcasts). I've decided to start a new direction to my radio hobbying by becoming an Amateur operator. I got my license Saturday and my transceiver is scheduled for delivery tomorrow!

Already studying for the General test,

Mike, KK4TSX
Louisville, KY

I ordered a dual-bander Baofeng from Amazon. I almost bought one at the Hamfest where I tested, until I realized I was speaking with Radio-Mart of eBay infamy!

Congradulations to yourself. I bought doggy (in July, 2002) from a Ham Radio Operator in Raymond, The Great Land Mass.

FCC Registered Radio Licenses in Raymond, Mississippi I don't see his phone number in my phone book. Maybe he uses only a cell phone nowadays. Anyway, I reckon he and his wife are still around.

Use the Gordon West books and the QRZ Practice tests. When you start
getting above 90% routinely start looking for an examiner. Welcome to
the show.

Welcome on board. It's disappointing that so many broadcasters seem to
be abandoning the shortwave bands to RCI, but radio has other aspects of
interest which you can now explore in more detail.

I will never ever work HF phone. Too much bull****. I do love me some
digimodes on HF.
