RT and Novosti are both mouthpieces for Putin, but even as such they do
a better job than any USA news channel.

I should point out that RT can be seen in the DC area on the MHz Network on OTA channel 30.4.

They are on Time-Warner here, on a ClearQAM channel with six digits and
a hyphen. Abby, Thom Hartmann, Max Keiser and Stacy Herbert, etc. Great
place to go when the USA media is covering bullpucky.

Except the weather and the sports, and the Paul Walker tributes tying up
the West Side.

VOR still on in English, 9395 at 2200. I have read reports that they will end service later this month (which pre-dated Mr. Putin's decree), but
there is also speculation that they will actually continue on.

We'll have to wait and see.

They were excellent during the oligarch/fundamentalist Syrian war campaign.

According to RIA Novosti itself:

"News agency RIA Novosti and the state-owned Voice of Russia radio are
to be scrapped and absorbed into Rossiya Segodnya. [...]

The move to dissolve RIA Novosti and Voice of Russia is the latest in a
series of shifts in the country's news landscape, which appear to point
toward a tightening of state control in the already heavily regulated
media sector.

Presidential administration head Sergei Ivanov said the changes were
about saving money and making state media more effective."

Is Max Keiser going away? Will I have to watch him on the IRI channel?

Hello, and while I realize this ng is for the HF radio band, I'd like to
point out that VOR is still alive and well on the MW band at 1390 kHz in
the metro Washington DC area. Sincerely,

The RRS newsgroup is about DC to Daylight communications with
electromagnetism, there are no frequency boundaries. The article about
RT is BS. The station is still plugging away.

Hello, and I stand corrected since I haven't been on this ng much. The
term "shortwave" most often is taken (at least in the US) to refer to
the 1.7 MHz to 3 MHz and the HF (3 MHz to 30 MHz) portions of the EM
spectrum.

One additional comment is that Russia Today (RT) TV english language
broadcasts, like BBC World News and China Central TV, are also available
on many cable TV channels as well as XM/Sirius radio. Funny how the
hosts on those non-BBC channels often have British accents ;-). Sincerely,
