Drake R8 timer relay and recording

I'd like to record from my R8 using the squelch detect as a trigger
for starting/stopping the recorder motor.

Presently, I use a PC and ProcommPlus to trigger the timer relay.
I want to do the same without the computer.

Any ideas?

Why not just use a VOX recorder?
