Eliminates SPAM for good!
 

Two points:
1. MS Outlook is a nice basic reader and most people use it (including me)
because it's easy to use, and because it's there. Paul made one hell of a
good suggestion that will benefit most people.
2. Finish YOUR "helpful" suggestion by recommending your "real" newsreader?

Using Outlook Express in any serious way is kind of like using single ply
toilet paper to do what you need 4 ply for. Get a real newsreader.

Book, then you'll see why.

Xnews or Free Agent are both free newsreaders that outperform OE and are
not susceptible to viruses.

Do some research and learn something about computer security. Stop trusting
Uncle Billy.

The type of newsreader you use has nothing what-so-ever to do with
virus susceptability. The virus is activated when you open a message
attachment containing one. Do some research, take your own advice.

What you need is a good AV program that will scan your mail/usenet
messages. I use McAfee and am happy with it.

I've used Agent (Free and paid) for years, and find it an excellent
program. The paid version has tremendous filtering capabilities.

What do they open the virus containing email with? Outlook Express.

If you think these simple to use newsreaders are a pain in the ass to use,
then you didn't do your homework very well.

Only recently did I learn to use Xnews' awesome scorefile ability, and then
because I was forced to, so to speak. It was easy as pie. I didn't have to
go to microsoft.com and read two pages of their technical gibberish,
either.

Outlook Express may be easy to use, but it's also very easy for those
viruses to use.

If Outlook Express and Internet Explorer didn't exist, the terms "computer
virus" and "security risk" would be almost unknown.
