Default HELP! Grundig YB 400PE and SSB

If the radio has a gain control, you might want to turn it down for SSB

Not the best radio for SSB

I have this radio and have been really happy with it. I did read in
Passport that it's SSB leave much to be desired. I've been recently
trying to use it, and I've had more luck. The best I've got is
transmissions but they are so far in the background and overcome by
noise that it's worthless.

Could it be my area? I'm in Southwestern Ontario. Is there such a
thing as a 'cheap' radio for good SSB operation?

Thanks,

I like the results on my 7600gr; but I have to say I haven't
experienced anything much better to compare it to.

What *has* been disappointing is the content of much of the SSB
transmissions I find: 2 or 3 guys discussing the weather, yard work,
auto repair, dinner, etc. Or trying to help one another to figure out
that newfangled computer thingy.

If you can, try to compare the 400 to the 7600.

Hi,

Where in "Southwestern Ontario"? As you can see I live in Windsor (also in
"Southwestern Ontario"). I've been getting a lot of noise on ALL my
receiver's lately (they're listed below) so it must be the area. .The
Grundig 400PE is not the best receiver for SSB. A DX-398 (Radio Shack's
version of the Sangean 909) is much better for SSB. However. the DX-398 has
been discontinued here in Canada for a few years. It was discontinued here in
Canada about a year before it was in the U.S.

I have a DX-397 and am thinking of getting rid of it - it hardly ever got
used and it's similar enough to the 400PE that I rarely use it anymore. I
got it a few years ago when RS discontinued it for around $280 (it's reg
price then was $400) plus our horrid 15% tax. Shortly after I got it I end
up with a DX-394B and the 398 rarely got used after than. Anyway, my current
collection consists of a Grundig Sat-800, 400PE and Mini 100PE as well as
the DX-398. I prefer the 400PE to the 398 only because of how it "feels".
When I listen to SSB it's on my Sat-800. I've been eyeing the S-350 lately
only because it's different from all my other receivers.
