EMP protecting radios

Today's USA today says the Govt wants to resume nuclear tests in Nevada.
It has been awhile since one of these things has been shot off above ground,
but the population of Nevada has grown.
The bomb(s) send out EMPs (electro magnetic pulses) that destroy solid-staer
equipment like computers and radios.

How far away will an EMP reach?

EMP isn't a consideration unless it's a good sized blast in the upper
atmosphere. Anyway, I'm not aware of repair shops being filled with dead
germanium transistor radios after the upper atmosphere tests of the early
60s. One test did knock the power out, but it took a couple of weeks of
head scratching before they put all the pieces of the puzzle together.
