Sony SW7600GR Antenna Question
Hi Robert:
If your just going to listen to shortwave, I suggest you get the AN-LP-1; I bought one & use it whenever I travel. It ALSO has a built in Pre-Selector.. Neat little gadget. There are some things I miss on Broadcast, but I suppose I can buy / bring a Kiwa Folding Antenna with me; or string out 30 feet of wire or whatever Dan In article , "Robert Chin" writes: Of the Sony accessory antennas that are recommended, which one works "best" with the 7600GR? The AN-LP1, the AN-1 or the AN-102. I've decided to get one of them, but I'm not sure which one. I'm just getting into listening to SW and I'd prefer an antenna that would give me the best chance of pulling in stations cleanly. All three antennas seem easy enough to transport. I've read a lot of good things about the AN-LP1 and very little about the other antennas. TIA |
See if a plain wire-antenna does the trick before you invest in active antennas like the ones you mention. I think the AN-LP1 is more advanced than the AN-1 ; I have the latter , it works - but the inside/circuitry looks quite simple ...... I can only offer feedback on the AN-LP1...it compares favorably with my 70'
random wire strung up outside when used on the 7600GR and my Yaesu FT-840 HF rig. This model is very portable and well designed. - Doug "Robert Chin" wrote in message ... I would suggest an alternative, the Torus Tuner SW Loop. The biggest
advantage is it requires no batteries and in my estimation is slightly more selective than the Sony Active Loop. Cheers, Frikij "Robert Chin" wrote in message ... So, good luck getting either of these great antennas! Universal Radio still shows the AN-LP1 on their on-line catalog. So perhaps it is indeed not discontinued. If anyone is interested in one, give Universal a call and see what the status is. You can actually buy an amp for the Torus, but don't bother for a portable radio - it wont really help any. Thanks to everyone for their replies.
I actually did check Universal and they do have them. Based on the feedback that I got here and from the prior things I've read about this antenna, I went ahead and ordered one from Universal. Universal said I should have it by Wednesday or Thursday. I'm looking forward to it. Now...when I attach the new antenna, what can I realsitically expect? Thanks again to all.
