FYI: Poor SW Listening Conditions

Current Solar Flux report:
SFI: 116 A-index: 65 K-Index: 3
Report last updated: 12:01utc 19 Aug 03

The high A-Index is a killer and the low Solar Flux is NOT amenable to good
propagation in the higher frequencies.

The above -- SEZ conditions for the Short wave bands are poor to lousy at
the moment and it will get worse as the solar cycle declines.

When times were good
Highs for Cycle 23
Flux: 283 - 26 Sep 2001

So for now --- Tune to the lower frequencies

For what all these numbers mean and how SWL propagation works.
See URL:
http://www.ae4rv.com/tn/propflash.htm

Only 5 or 6 more years til the solar cycle rises again (more or less) !!!!

See URL: http://www.dxlc.com/solar/solcycle.html
For Solar Cycles 22 and 23

The next solar minimum will likely occur sometime in 2006 with cycle 24
peaking in 2010.

There are still plenty of good days for shortwave listening at the
minimum of each solar cycle. You just have to choose the right bands and
times. It's true that the higher frequencies are less active at solar
minimum but there are also fewer solar storms and therefore less
propagation disturbances during those years.
