Long Wire Antenna Question

Hiya...

By now I'm sure you know to use the 500 ohm connector for a long wire that
is fed directly into the radio. But, you may want to rig up a simple coax
feed for your long wire and then plug it into the 50 ohm connector.

I used a 200 foot long wire in my R-75 with no coax feed for a while and I
thought it was working good. Until, I found out through experimentation
with other antennas that the directly fed long wire was very noisy.

After adding an inexpensive matching transformer and a coax feed, the long
wire has a much better signal to noise ratio.

Hi,
I use a Kenwood R-5000 for Dx listening and I am connecting a long
wire antenna to it. I have two screws on the back labeled "50 Ohm"
and "500 ohm"under "Antenna 1"
The omega letter is next to the number and I am assuming it stands for
Ohms.
Which is the proper place to connect the long wire antenna?
Thank you
Mike
