Why is eBay 'Better Than' Gambling ? - - - Because Gambling is Win & Lose and eBay is Win & Win. In Gambling - You Place Your Bet: - Sometimes You Win The Money. - - Then again many times You Lose Your Money. On eBay Auctions - You Place Your Bid (Bet). - Sometimes You Win Your eBay Item. - - Then again You Never Lose Your Money. NOTE: On eBay Auctions - You Always Get Something of Value - - - The ITEM -or- Your MONEY ! When It Comes to 'Bidding' on eBay: To Me Its Like Playing Cards. The Excitement can be Being-In-the-Game. Peeking at the Sellers Hold Card (Reserve Price) and Calling the Other Guys Bluff. However, If I Want the Item {I Can Taste the "BUY" Coming On} : Then It is a Different Ball Game; With Two Minutes to Go; Throw One Big Bomb (Hail Mary Pass) and Score a Touch Down and Win the Game. Zero (0) Bidders Warning and Low eBay Member's Score Caution for eBayers: If you are Bidding in an eBay Auction Against a 'New' eBayer: With -O^O- 30 Day Marker and a Zero (0) Score. Be Advised and Warned - They Want to Make their Mark and Win an Auction. They Will Bid High and Often Over Bid an Item To Bid Against Them Is a Fools Game This Caution generally Applies to eBayers with a Score Under Ten (10) Too! Hi, RHF, I think you're right usually regarding the 70% of retail as a
maximum guideline for eBay bidding, but there are exceptions when an item is not readily available although purportedly still in production. In late July I paid about $120 on eBay for a Sony AN-LP1 (retail ~$85 if you can find one). I notice that there's another one on eBay right now which has already bid up past that with another day and a half left in the bidding (up to $122.50 as I write this). Here's a link to that exciting auction, LOL: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tem=3044664623 Anyway, I agree with your guideline 99% of the time, and of course I realize that some may think me foolish to pay that 50% penalty, but I really wanted the item. Put differently, maybe I had more money than sense. :-) Still, I enjoy the AN-LP1 very much when traveling. Randy (RHF) wrote in message om... = = = "Uncle Jizzie" = = = wrote in message ... - Possibly some people are doing ALL their shopping on ebay or doen't know
things can be bought elsewhere. - Wierd . . . The probability that some shenanigans were
taking place would not suprise me in the very least Lee. I have heard at many a hamfest that "so and so dealer(s)" who used to show up at *every* ham flea market East of the Mississippi are now selling on e-Bay amongst a 'syndicate' of dealers who have multiple e-Bay accounts and routinely shill-up the price of each others respective auction(s). (....of course Lee, I would NEVER believe that small groups of former 'gypsy' hamfest radio dealers would engage in anything (alleged) like this! ) "Lee Smith" wrote in message ... Maybe the title of this thread should have been "More Stupid People Who Haven't Got A Clue About What They Are Buying Are Over-Bidding Yet Again On E-Bay" which would better reflect what is happening here.....I don't think it is a shenanigan at all. That would indicate to me another scam or fraud scheme. 73 Lee |

There are many people that live in parts of the world where common products by western standards are hard get, so they shop for them on Ebay. Having said that, I still think there's a lot of 'shill bidding' taking place on Ebay. -----= Posted via Newsfeeds.Com, Uncensored Usenet News =----- http://www.newsfeeds.com - The #1 Newsgroup Service in the World! -----== Over 100,000 Newsgroups - 19 Different Servers! =----- |
While there is no shortage of detractors on this and other newsgroups
regarding EBay, I have had generally excellent "luck" with buying through that site on about a dozen items ranging from ham radio, to model railroad stuff, FM radio broadcast equipment, to radio controlled model airplane equipment. Only once have I been less than satisfied, and that was due to the seller sending the item in a poorly packed box with newspaper as the packing material and a few items inside the equipment case came loose and rattled around. About 5 minutes with a screwdriver completely fixed the problem luckily enough. If you know what you want, and set a personal maximum for price, then tightly slam the wallet closed when that limit is reached, I don't see the problem with the selling prices obtained on EBay. Frankly, if I were selling something, I'd look to get as much as the general traffic will bear. Heaven forbid that I should meet an untimely death, but if my "prized toys" were being sold off so my wife could pay bills, I would hope that the executor of my estate would be out to maximize the cash return for her to the greatest extent possible. If you get caught up in some kind of uncontrollable bidding frenzy because of the "fun" you're having, or don't have a clue as to the proper value of an item, then you have other problems on the go. The very existance of EBay isn't the cause of it. Lee |
