all the stuff on 5399

Thanks to the guy that runs that milaircomm site, been listening to
the "Enterprise battlegroup" on 5399. Maybe someone here who is "in
the know" can explain some of this. I hear the ships come on
sometimes, seems that the "main station" is the strongest, I think the
weaker stations are the ships.

I think they were getting there orders or directions as the main
station came on and said "no black timber currently active" Sounds to
me like some code names for certain actions. 3 Stations came on
shortly and acknowledged this by "Echo Whiskey Rgr Out" Not sure of
the "Echo whiskey" but these must be the phonetic codes for the
carriers.

Another question:

Why are these using HF anyway? Don't they use sats most of the time?
Or maybe being that this is an excercise they decide to just put it
out in the clear.

Anyway, it is real cool to listen too.

Global High Frequency System is in the clear that way too, on shortwave. I
don't know why they are on shortwave. Perhaps the higher priority messages
are digital and encrypted and use satellites.

They are also being heard on 9213.5

Contrary to popular belief, there are plenty of military & government
stations still using HF. If they have sensitive information, they can
always "go green" and encrypt it, usually using ANDVT.

Don't forget to try 2370 KHz USB as well as they've been on there too.

The military, US Coast Guard, and even Civil Air traffic (on flights
over the ocean) make extensive use of HF. And as a side note BPL is
going to put more peoples lives at risk than many people realize. But
back on topic. No, they don't use SATs most of the time, HF (or if in
range UHF) is much easier to establish comms than on the SATs. Also if
you have commandos on the ground spotting or lazing targets to be taken
out by F/A-18 Hornets its much easier to use a UHF radio than to aim an
antenna at a Sat while your hiding in the forest. Even HF would be
eaiser in most cases. During the last few weeks its been very exciting
listing to this type of comms on UHF, for those not lucky enough to be
close enough you can go he
http://www.milaircomms.com/audio_library.html as I have actual audio
recordings of this type of comms.

I have one scanner that does nothing but scan all the downlink freqs of
the milsats. Its connected to a 5 element yagi and preamp aimed at one
of the UFO Mil Birds. Yes you'll hear some digitial and encrypted
comms and once in a great while something in the clear. But in reality
UHF (and HF) is used moreoften than the Sats...

Ok good deal, didn't know they were using anything other but those 2
freqs. 5399 tends to be stronger in my area. Apparently they use these
different frequencies for differ comms.
