Radio Ukraine

Anyone on the east coast have any luck picking RU up with a
random/long wire? I get a ton of other European and Asian broadcasts,
but even at 1 million watts, no Radio Ukraine. Is it me or do they
have lousy engineers?

It may just be propogation. If the atmosphere is not such that it will
reflect signals, no one will hear the transimitter S.

I'm on the East coast and I'd love to pick them up. Last I had heard,
they weren't on, or were on occasionally.

They have a MILLION watts??? Good grief. Whom are they trying to
reach, martians? Are they aimed at Mars?

I get Nigeria here, 250K supposedly aimed at Europe, in the
mid-afternoon. So why isn't the 1000K of radio Ukraine playing out my
TV set?

I show Radio Ukraine as having a 100,000 watt transmitter. I haven't
yet heard of a station with a mil output wattage (not that one might not
exist). "Voice of Russia" is an 800,000 watt powerhouse, though. FWIW,
I have yet to pull Radio Ukraine, either.

They are currently on 9810 0000-0100 in English amidst some nifty
interference (at least here).

That could be. I pulled the data from ILG.

Hi Steve,

Guess thats another one ILG needs to update. I almost got them a
couple days ago on12040 but there is so much signal from DW to Africa
on 12045, Radio Ukraine doesn't stand a chance.

That's probably a pretty good idea because I don't think Radio Ukraine is
using 12040.

Nope, the info is correct. They have not one but 3 transmitters at
1000 KW.

Here is the link I used to confirm it: http://www.tdp.info/ukr.html

Whoops, I mean they have six (6) at 1000KW. Got some birdy sounding
interference too, he,he.

That's what it says, all right, but I'm still wondering about the
possibility that the reporter for that info on the site has one too many
zeros. I can't help but wonder about one country - and not a terribly
rich one at all - with six one million watt transmitters. Maybe - but
it doesn't seem likely, to me.
I'm getting it this evening clearly, with some interference, on 9810,
too. But it's no stronger than most stations from that part of the
world that beam broadcasts to the west, and not nearly as strong as
Voice of Russia usually is (though I know that doesn't prove anything
with all the variables involved).

I haven't tried them for a month or so but they were coming in fairly well
on 12040 in the evenings here in Baltimore, MD. Some nice music programs.
