Question : How can I hook up a device to give my Sangean 818cs remote control
capabilities. Is remote control a feature only for the higher end radios ?

You need a receiver with an interface so you can connect the radio to the PC
and some control software. I do not think there is anything for your
receiver, but I could be wrong. Perhaps some intrepid person here knows how
to build an interface.
