How good it is, is largely luck of the draw. The design is excellent,
however the manufacturing often isn't nearly as good.

Grundig has had an excellent name in radio for over 4 decades.

yea, from what i understand when this unit first came out, there was
alot of manufacturing problems, they started making a "second"
generation to fix alot of the problems, soon after they started making
a "third generation". The third generation is pretty much perfect...
Ill be getting a 3rd generation..

My Satellit 800 is an excellent receiver. Because of some quality
control problems, I suggest you purchase the 800 from a dealer that
has a 15 or 30 day money-back-guarantee if not satisfied policy.

How does one make certain they're getting a "third generation? set. I'd
appreciate any help on this...i.e. if I buy one from Universal Radio, will
that be a 3rd generation???

You can be assurred that if you buy it from Universal it will be 3rd
generation. They will be happy to confirm that by e-mail or phone, as they did
for me.

They are very helpful and have a good rep for customer service.
