Default HELP for newbie Italian radio tube reactivation?

My friend Mario Ribaldi ) has written me with a question
about restoring tube radios. Can anyone help him?

Mi amigo:
Me restore project of radio Geloso 217 is begun. I may ask how to restore valve
activation (what you Americans call tubas) for no strong emission. I find
website that American place tube in specail place. Can this help restore
activity? The report is from SURGERY MAGAZINE by Doctore Dabid Busch in
Wisconsin, Madison.
The referencia es http://www.well.com/www/cynsa/newbutt.html

Can you make clear to me how this helps?

I think what he's asking is if American tube types can be used in
European radios. And the answer is yes, if it's a post WW2 set. He'll
need to find a cross reference table on the net. There's a newsgroup
devoted to old tube radios, rec.antiques.radio+phono, but most of the
posters are Americans.

Years ago, there were some devices available to rejuvenate sick tubes, both
CRTs and the little fellows. Sometimes it worked. Sometimes it didn't. It all
depended upon the problem with a given tube.

One scheme for weak emission was an in-line plug-in device to jack up the
filament voltage a bit. Again, sometimes...

The link goes to a medical site which reports that 7 people in Madison WI
inserted radio tubes in their butts (reason?) and had to go to hospitals to
have them removed. I assume many more people inserted them and removed them
successfully themselves. But why?

Was this done to revive the tubes? Is this practice limited to Wisconsin?.
Guys talk about boatanchors (a nautical term) ; I suppose we should be
thankful for transistors, uh?

Just be glad that it was seven rather than five!

They couldn't find appropriate transistors?

No; it was - more than likely - done to receive pirate radio and stations
with a (fill in the blank) disposition.

Is this practice limited to Wisconsin?.

Who said they were "just" practicing?

Nope. I betcha the tubes were easier to troubleshoot.

Why is it that a R-390 resembles a truck
transmission more than a radio?

Perhaps Madison, Wisconsin has replaced Bohemian Grove as
the aging frat-boy Satanic party capital of the world.

Alex Jones has already exposed the Total Control Grid. I
can't even imagine the evil plans the New Weird Order may
have for the other two ominously named grids.

What hath Lee (Yale grad) DeForest wrought?
