Maritime Radio around Halifax Nova Scotia
 

Hi to all on list...

I have added something a little different to my web site which I hope
those of you interested in Maritime history will enjoy.

Written by Spud VE1BC it covers the history of marine communications
as it applied to the Halifax, Nova Scotia area, especially that
connected with and around station VCS.

It's in a new maritime memories section and it's called Radio Stations
Common? Not this kind.

Feedback is most welcome, and let me know if you would like more
maritime memories. Contributions are of course most welcome also.

I believe it was VCS that broadcast the evening news in Morse at
about 18 wpm at around 0230Z. This was a big help to me because the
subject matter was interesting, the speed high enough to make me
stretch, contained enough numbers and odd characters for practice, and
was plain language that helped me get started hearing words instead of
characters.

I've done a little fruitless web searching looking to see if ANY
station still broadcasts English language Morse news. ?? Anyone know of
any ??

In answer to the above I received the following from Spud VE1BC

Not VCS to my knowledge. WCC broadcast news way back in 1914 before
broadcast stations but that is the only one I know.
