Unknown Noise: 7290 kHz

OK... Art Bell played a recording of a pulse type noise (buzz) bursts that
he said is bothering folks on the west coast; thousands of square miles in
extent... I heard him say the noise peaks on 7290 kHz and is a source of
irritation to coms on the 40 meter Ham band.

Anybody got the straight dope on this that they could pass along.

This has been heard by several members of the European Number Stations
group (Enigma 2000) It has occured on other frequencies besides 40
meters as well.

If you want to download that Art Bell segment I posted it on my site.

I heard that HAARP is running four times the previous power emitted.

It may very well be, however HAARP tends to stay out of the amateur
bands. HAARP has been known to broadcast high/low frequency tones on
5800 and on a lower frequency which I can't rememmber at the moment.
Perhaps an e-mail to HAARP would be in order, they usually are prompt
with responses.

I'd heard that HAARP was sold to the UK or a UK consortium for a pittance.

Do you have any documentation to back this [sale of HAARP to UK) up with?

No, but I wish I did have. I'll nose around and see what I find. What bothered
me was the price given -- something like $20M. It's worth many times that.
