My Yaesu is creating its own interference!

Today I noticed that the loud whistling sound was back. I traced it to
(I thought) the cheapo surge strip connected to my Yaesu FRG8800-when
unplugged, the noise stopped. So I plugged the Frog directly into the
wall plug (sans strip) and the noise started up again. It's not a birdie
because I can hear it on my DX396. Do I need to send my 8800 to LA for
repairs (that I can't afford right now)? Any ideas?

I think that unaffordable repair could well be in order.

BTW. The interference can still be a birdie even if you can receive it on
another radio.

It doesn't take much power for a signal to be received by a radio in close
proximity.

At what frequency is the birdie?
