Anybody try this radio with a long wire? I was wondering if it is a good
shortwave radio. It's a pretty good scanner. Especially with the software
and USB cable. I haven't tried the wire antenna yet. I hope it is good as I
would love to bring it up north to the artic with me.

Thanks

Pierre

The most likely scenario that would result from putting any real long
piece of wire on a handheld like the R5 is overload. It's simply too
much antenna for a little broadband radio like that to handle, even in
the arctic. If you need something small that performs, the Ten Tec
RX320 would fit the bill very nicely (assuming propagation would
cooperate, hihi). And to be honest, I don't think anyone has ever
brought a 320 down that far :.)) 73s and GL...Mike
