!How to fix a Yaesu FRG8800 that has gone 'deaf'.....

Anyone know how to fix a Yaesu FRG8800 Communications receiver?
http://www.dxing.com/rx/frg8800.htm

The fault is that has gone 'deaf' on the shortwave band.
The SINPO display still shows it's receiving when tuning across the band,
the frequency display works, but there is no audio output on the shortwave
band/AM mode.
Opening the squelch and turning the volume right up just gives a low ac hum
in that mode.

It has the VHF module fitted and that still works, I can hear Utility FM
narrow, and AM aeronautical transmissions ok, but that module is like a
second VHF receiver that only uses the power supply, display, and audio
section of the receiver.

It has the ability to receive FM narrow transmissions on the shortwave band
(as used by some amateurs according to the manual, not that I've ever heard
any) and when tuning across the shortwave band in that mode I can hear
distorted Shortwave transmissions/broadcasts, so FMn reception on the SW
band still works....
So I think the fault may be in the AM receive section......

I have tried resetting the CPU as per the instructions in the manual, didn't
fix the problem.
