Apologies for this being off-topic. But this has always been a killer group for info.

Work has kept me away from this group for the better part of the last
few months. I hope this topic didn't appear and I just missed it.

I need recommendations about where to learn about FM subcarriers and
the radios that decode them. I seem to find precious little on the
net, aside from companies that b'cast over them and make it
mysterious. There are a lot of these broadcasters in NYC.

Does anyone know of a good book, URL or otherwise to explain how FM
subcarriers work and how the radios that receive them work?

Try www.popularcommunications.com... I seen an article in there about them.

Article was in May 2003 Popular Communications magazine its on page 8 and
the person who wrote it is Bruce F. Elving. Ph.D.

How To Turn A Radio Band Your Neighbors Don't Know Exists!

More Info can be found at http://members.aol.com/fmatlas/home.html ---not
sure if it still works worth a try though.

Or you can write for a printed catalog to P.O. Box 336, MN 55733-0336
