The RX-320 is quite portable. Aside from being able to be controlled

with a laptop which many people carry for other reasons, the RX-320 can
also be controlled with a PDA.

And it's great for ssb. RM~

FWIW: Between these two is the Icom IC-R75 and the Kenwood R-5000.

Check-Out the Icom IC-R75 (NEW @ $450-$550)

You don't give the price. The Sony 7600GR is nice at $150 for SSB.

The Drake R8B is nicer at $1400.

I'd leave the 2010 off the list if sideband is a major consideration. 100
htz tuning is way to course. I would'nt want to listen to that long.

For overall value its still hard to beat a Sony 2010. If portability isnt

a
big deal then the Ten Tec RX 320 DSP black box rcvr is a good value. Both

are
available used on eBay pretty often. Although many disagree, I like the

ICOM R
10 handlheld. With a good antenna it gets decent HF SSB and has a voice
squelch that quiets the rcvr between SSB transmissions (not to be confused

with
a a carrier squelch). It also rcvs VHF and UHF. I got mine used for $200.

In article , says...
What is a good shortwave radio?

Please elaborate on exactly what you want to monitor, what your budget
will allow, whether or not you want a portable vs. a desktop unit, etc.
These factors make a big difference in what recommendations I would
personally make in answer to your question.
