WSM Nashville
I am impressed this morning, WSM .650 khz Nashville Tennesse is coming in
really good this morning. I'm in New England (Maine) and it's the first time I've heard this station so late after sunrise here. Band conditions must be excellent on MW. -- 73's Rick Drake R8 R8B ICOM R75 Yaesu 7700 Hammarlund SP-600-JX-17 "If you try to fail and succeed, which have you done?" |

I've got a Crosley VI, a ca. 1924 two-tube regen. receiver with book condensers. After finally getting a power supply, I hooked up the long wire antenna and -boom--I received two local stations and WSM! That was last winter. I'm in northern lower Michigan (Traverse City). It was at night. Not bad for a very rudimentary radio. Chris Campbell |
WSM "We Shield Millions" used to be owned by the now defunct National Life
and Accident Insurance Company in Nashville Tennesee. American General Corporation bought National Life in about 1984 or so, and sold off the station and the Opryland properties. It is also the home to the world renowed Grand Ole Opry. It's been one of my favorite stations my whole life. When I was a kid, I had crystal radio receiver that I had built from scrounged parts and a diagram out of "Radio Electronics" magazine. At night I would clip the ground wire to my bed springs, and the antenna to the metal frame of my window and could hide under the covers listening to the worlds best country music, with no one, especially my mom and dad, the wiser. Sure beat comic books being read by flashlight, although many times these activities went on at the same time! "Rick KB1KIL" wrote in message ... Rick: That might be a good station to listen to after the game in Foxboro Saturday night! Then again, maybe not... -- Brian Denley http://home.comcast.net/~b.denley/index.html |
