PRO2052 Reverb problem

I have a radio shack pro 2052 desktop scanner which usually works just fine.
But every now and again, after it has been on for a while, it goes into an
acoustic reverberation. The only way to fix that is to either turn the
volume down or turn off the radio for a while. Any idea why this m ight
happen ?
TIA

Try an external speaker. If it works OK this way its the internal
wireing of the speaker or the wireing to the speaker. Should be easy to
fix by replacing the speaker. If the fault is also there when using an
external speaker there is maybe an "cold" soldering point or a
microscopic break on the PCB.
