ATS 505P v. KA1102
 

Hi,

I'm the owner of a Sangean ATS 505P. I've had it for a month, but I haven't
even taken it out of the box yet. I'm wondering if I should keep it, or if I
should sell it and get a Kaito KA1102 instead? Both radios seem to have the
features I want, but I have read several online reviews of the Kaito, and it
seems to get higher marks compared to the Sangean. Passport to World Band
Radio even gave this new radio higher marks than the Sangean. I was
wondering if anyone here has been able to compare the two radios, and would
be willing to share their thoughts?

Why haven't you taken the 505P out of the box ?

I'm using an old ATS803A... looks to be coming to the end of its life soon.
It's getting flakey (losing memories, cutting out) and I know it won't last
forever. I wanted a smaller radio with SSB capabilities, as I'm also a ham
operator and like to listen for 10 meter beacons and copy CW transmissions
to keep up my speed. I bought the ATS505P just before the holidays and got
too busy to do much listening, so it's still in the box. I thought I would
check around and see what I could find about the Kaito first. If the Kaito
were a better radio, I would probably sell the 505P and pick up the KA1102.
I didn't see the review of the KA1102 here; I'll check the Google newsgroup
archives and see if I can find out where this radio came up short.
