watkins Johnson hf1000

I have an older watkins Johnson Hf1000 that seems to have locked up. I was
using a damp rag to wipe off the buttons since it came from a dead guy, anyway
before i cleaned it, it was working after cleaning it i turned it on and all i
am getting is flasing from the frequency display and some numbers and letters
from the other three displays and no volume.

This is the older radio with the 04.01.03 firmware and 797006 controller board
and 797012 digital assembly (hope thats right)

the radio seems to be in mute

Searching on the net it seems that these older radios had these problems. It
seem that the Watkins Johnson company is been sold again so it hard to get any
info from them If anyone have one of these radios or any info or suggestions
please help me out

thanks

That's one of the most interesting comments I've read
on the radio newsgroups since 1983 !

Sorry, I don't have the answer to your question.
Suggest you post the question to other WJ owners
on the Premium-Rx group:

The typical germs you would find on the dry (no water) surfaces of
domestic appliances (radios) don't live more than a few hours.

STARMAN,

The GERMS on my radios seem to Fade In and Out all the time
after all... they are Radio Active :o)

You afraid he may have left some death on the radio?

I wonder if the guy died while DXing and was only discovered when the
neighbors noted that the radio never turned off. If so, then he died
doing what he loved (but where was his family?).
