Radio Shack got out making shortwave radios?
I was in a Radio Shack for the first time in about a year and I notice they
no longer sell their own models but sell Grundig, etc. Did Radio Shack get completely out of making the DX series?? There must be some good discounts out there somewhere on the DX models if that is the case. |
The deep discounts were a little over a year ago, around Oct-Nov 2002. I
picked up two DX-396s for $50, a DX-402 for $50, and a DX-398 for $99. Basically I got all four radios for the list price of the DX-398 alone. I gave the DX-396s as gifts, but still use the DX-402 and DX-398. Both are very good radios. Bob "snow" wrote in message ... Bob Agree with Bob's response, but also think it's worth pointing out (given the original header of the post) that, to my knowledge, Radio Shack *never* "made" their own radios. Some of their stuff is "made to their specifications" however you want to interpret that, but I don't think they have their own manufacturing facility for anything, and don't know if they ever did. Just about all of the DX'ers were made by someone elce other than RS.

The ONLY thing Radio Shack makes is "Coax and other wire/cable" And it is
****** quality. Scanners by Uniden, Stereos are last years Pioneers with special faceplates, and a lot of the new stuff is made by Cyberhome and even has the MFGR's label on it. A long long time ago many of RadioShack's Radios were made by Hitachi. Then for many years, RadioShack used to Re-Badge other manufactures radios and equipment with there own Brand Names. More recently, Sangean has made most of RadioShacks "DX" Series of World Band Radios. Today RadioShack is becoming a Brand Name Re-Saler: Grundig; RCA; Sprint; Dish TV; Direct TV; and others. Speaking of Radio Shack, I was real disappointed in their sales people a couple of weeks ago when I purchased their SW antenna kit. I'm an electronics dummy so I asked them some very basic questions about hooking the antenna up to my Sony 7600GR....like hooking up the lead in wire to a plug (which I bought from them) that has a hot pin and a ground sleeve. They had no clue. First they said hook it up to the ground, then the hot, and finally both! This happened at two stores. I remember not too long ago when their commercials bragged how their salespeople were electronics experts....well, now they don't even know the basics of the stuff they sell. |
