![]() "Preesi" wrote in message ... What low cost full featured radio with sideband do you all have? There has got to be some basic radio you ppl can recommend! PLEASE! What frequencies do the majority of you find RTTY, WEFAX and CW on? If You came on a newsgroup or msg brd I was on and asked questions Id help you Inexpensive radio and RTTY, FAX, CW do not go together real well. There is also very little RTTY or FAX around anymore. The only real CW is on the Ham bands. You are going to be up in the Icom R75 or the like range and a very good antenna before you will get a very good read on those type of signals. You need a sensitve and very selective radio with a very tight bandwidth to decode those signals accurately. You need to hit one of the utility Web sites to see what frequencies are currently active for the non voice modes. With satellite and other means available RTTY, FAX and non Ham CW are coming to a close. If I remember correctly commercially used CW is gone The authority book on the commercial side band traffic is Klingenfuss and he publishes a new book annually. SelCal for air traffic is still around and fairly easy to decode even if you do not have the best radio, a good 2.8 filter and SSB is fine. You need the Selcal software from AirNav though and you run the audio into your sound card from your radio. Greg |
