I thought they were the exact same radio. I ordered the KA1102 because I
didn't want to take the chance I'd get the radio with an unusable (in the
U.S.) 220 V power requirement and a manual written in Mandarin Chinese,
which I cannot read...
anyway, as far as I know, I think they are the same radio besides these two
points...

Hi Jackie.

I realize you already have your radio, so this information is for
others following this thread and trying to decide which version
to get.

Liypn, on eBay, includes a free voltage converter and the radio comes
with an English manual.

Both items are addressed in his ads for the DE1102, though the
manual is mentioned as "available". The included Degen manual has two
sections... English and Chinese.

And as pointed out previously, there is the cost difference.
Personally I don't mind using the a/c adaptor with converter
because I saved so much money buying the Degen version.
27% savings over the radios4you.com delivered price. One only
needs the adaptor if they want to recharge the batteries in
the radio (another feature I like). If you have a separate recharger
you don't need the adaptor anyway. The radio keeps its settings
if the batteries are removed.

Also, I will add this: Liypn is the best eBay seller I've ever
done business with. A real professional who believes
customer service is the number one priority. He'll answer
all questions asap, and can deliver 99% of orders within
10 business days of shipping from China. Anyone considering
this radio, or a Tecsun, should look into buying from Liypn.
Read his eBay feedback : )

Not quite yet... should be here any day...

I see... how much does Lipyn charge for shipping? In some instances, high
shipping costs can negate savings, depending on how far the goods have to
travel.

Have fun with the DE1102!

Now, the interesting report to see would be a direct head-to-head comparison
listing the similarities and the differences among what seems to be two
different badgings of what might be the exact same radio. Why would you
want it as a Degen DE1102 over a Kaito KA1102 or the other way around.

Cost. They are the same radio except for external markings and packaging.
My DE1102 is black; as far as I know the Kaito is available only in
silver. I dislike cheap silver radios because the paint eventually wears
off at points of friction, and starts to look awful. (The exception,
surprisingly, might be the cheap DE105 having an aluminum faceplate).

There's probably a Tecsun version of the same radio, since my understanding
is that Kaito and Degen and possibly Kchibo are all brand names of Tecsun.

Degen and Tecsun are different companies having distinct product lines.
There is no "Tecsun version" of a Degen radio, although Tecsun has products
that compete with Degen models of the same general class.

I wouldn't be surprised to soon hear of a Grundig version and a Sangean
version of the same radio, all probably called XX- or XXX-1102 where XX or
XXX are some letter combination.

Not until Eton starts using Degen as a supplier. Right now it's Tecsun.

I wonder what I might be missing if I just call up Universal Radio or some
other such supplier and order it as a KA1102 instead of getting it as a
DE1102, or is that DE-1102?

You'll pay a little more, and get faster delivery. You will also have the
comfort of a US warranty which might make the extra money worthwhile.

Wow, good deal there. If I ever need another one of these babies, I'll know
who to order it from!
