A good scanner antenna with broad frequency range might be good. Leave the
Radio Shack Discone on their shelf however. I had one - storms blew the
radials off it, and bent some of the others, and didn't provide any better
reception than the telescoping antenna that screws into my scanner LOL.

I used a "Super big stick" CB antenna for years until it soaked up a ton
of water, it worked great.
