RFI intermittent reception reasons?
 

Hello..

I enjoy listening to Radio France International when I can get it which
is not very often. I find they broadcast towards Central America at least on
Saturdays around 5-8 am Eastern Standard time.

My question is..I have found on this and other sations that the
reception would go along fine for say 10-15 minutes..and then abruptly
dissapear to static. I change stations or turn off radio and say 5 minutes
later the reception would be back. Why is this?

If it matters..I live in the northeast United States and am using a Grundig
400PE radio.

What kind of antenna do you have, and how is it connected ? I have usually
found I should check the antenna connection first in such cases. If there is
any break in it, you may need to replace that if it is outdoors. Sometimes
the stations are extremely punctual about signing off, but if they are
coming back it may mean they are having trouble with their transmitter, or
that your radio has a bad connection somewhere. If you are using batteries,
check the connections their. If there is any rust or corrosion, clean that
off until you have good metal and replace the batteries. I can't really
think of anything else that might explain what you are hearing. However,
there are others here who have a lot more expertise than me s. Best

David, propogation has been unusually spotty this winter season. Radio France
International's 1600 G.M.T. Africa feed on 11.615 mhz, from Allouis-Issoudun,
propogates fairly steadily into NorCali. It too, though, has been prone to
fadeouts. Hopefully, their parallel 15.605 mhz & 17.605 mhz simucasts will
return with spring-time. WA6020SWL
