Makeshift antenna for 7600GR
 

Hi,
I just bought my first SW reciever, a 7600GR, and I would like to improve
reception. I have been using the whip with the reel antenna that was
supplied with the radio and just the other day I attached about 24ft of
light gauge speaker wire to the whip. This improved reception noticably,
even more so when I tossed the wire out the window, where it is now. My
question is how much more wire could I add without any risk to the reciever,
and is there any other easy add-ons i could do to this make shift antenna to
give me greater reception?

Since I believe ther is an attenuator on the 7600GR,

- Aside from Static electricity Build up / Lightning ( Etc)

NO possible harm can come from a very long antenna;
You just add the ability to pick up Very faint signals with your receiver...

You can add as much wire as you need to it until you start overloading the
receiver. However, with inductive coupling to the whip you can get the wire
pretty long without worrying about it. I think the one I'm using now has
around 50 feet of wire. Also with inductive coupling, you don't have to
worry so much about static charges if you ground the other end of the coil
that goes around the whip. However, with lengths of 30-50 feet you
shouldn't have to worry about static buildup too much.

I.m using a wire of 15 meters in the garden connected to a tree of with a
MLB, it works great!!
