advice on buying a Grundig Sat. 800

What advices would you give to someone who is about to buy a new Grundig
Satellit 800 (like year/serial numbers/what to test first etceteras)? I am
asking since no matter how I turn it I end up with this choice for a good,
inexpensive, new HF receiver.

Thanks!

Nic.

I would advise you to buy a "refurbished" unit from Universal, as I did. It
will insure that it has been checked out by a technician from R.L. Drake,
AND even better....
$100 dollars less than new! It will look as good as new...

If you are buying a 'new' Grundig Satellit-800, the serial number won't
be an issue. A factory reconditioned one should perform well, since they
are serviced by Drake. The main risk is buying an older used '800' from
a private owner. You don't know if it has problems that were not
repaired.
