Need opions on Grundig Mini 200

I'm considering getting myself a Grundig Mini 200 just to have
something to carry around for casual broadcast listening.
Anyone care to persuade or dissuade me?

This is the Tecsun R-919. Passport reviewed it in the 2004 edition and
said it was the best of the cheap analog-with-digital-display radios ...
but that isn't saying much as none of them even rate 2 stars. It's
probably as good as the R-818, Kaide R-9702, or the Jwin and Coby models
around the same price; perhaps a little better. The downside to me, for
pocket use, would be the fact that the telescopic antenna sits in a stiff
collar that does not collapse. This means something is always jutting out
of the top even if you aren't using the antenna.

The mini-200 is NOT a Tecsun R-919 as someone else has told you. The 919 is
equal to the Mini-300 which I don't believe is out just yet. The 200 is
just a slightly larger version of the Mini-100. I have all three and find
the 200 to be the best of the 3. It is very sensitive off the whip (h.f.),
has decent volume and picks up local M.W. and F.M. stations well. It seems
to go for the shelf life of the batteries too. It is the radio I carry in
my tackle box...

Take a look at RadioIntel's review, at
http://www.radiointel.com/review-grundig200.htm. They gave it a
pretty good review.

I have three pocket cheapies: a Mini 200, Mini 100, and a Kaito
WRX911. Of the three, the Mini 100 worked the best for me, even
though it lacks the 22M band the others include.

I found the WRX911's reception lacking, and the 200's build quality
not quite as good as the 100; wobbly dial pointer, stiff thumbwheel
controls, that sort of thing. That could be a sample-to-sample
variation that you might not encounter, though. For the price, I
don't think you'd be disappointed.

I have a mini 200 and am surprised sometimes by how much I enjoy it!
The tuner and scale are resonably accurate (tho you may need your bifocals).
It's got very good sensitivity and ok selectivity. My main beef is that
it's a touch "drifty" and you'll use the tuning know alot to clean up the
signal on the fly. Probably best shirt pocket sized radio you can get for
$30US. Batteries last quite a while too!

I would suggest that you look at the DEGEN DE105. It is a very small
all digital radio and can be purchased for about $25.00 on eBay. Here
is a link to a review of the DE105
http://www.radiointel.com/review-kaitoka105.htmI

I have the Mini 100, 200 and the Tescun R919 which is the same as the
Grundig 300. Here is my ranking of the four radios ( all of which I
own )

DEGEN DE105
Tescun R919 ( Grundig 300 )
Grundig 200
Grundig 100

Hope that helps
