Utility Questions

What are Utilities? I notice this in M.T. magazine. Is this a frq that you
could tune into on SW? And can LORAN be picked up on SW?

There used to be a loran system around 1.8MHz. It was gone by around
1990 or so. There's another one around 100khz.

Utilities or 'Utes' are basically any shortwave signal which does not
emanate from the transmitter of an international (progamming)
broadcaster or amateur radio 'ham'. This includes data transmissions,
military communications, ship to shore, transoceanic aircraft and
continuous time stations.
LORAN is no longer transmitted on shortwave. It was replaced by GPS
which is much more accurate.
