Newbie Quest's: Aero & Maritime Distress/Emerg. Freq's/Modes, Please ?

Hello:

Newbie questions, please.
Getting back into hobby.

What are the "Distress" frequencies used these days for Aero and Maritime ?

a. Maritime:

e.g., is 2182 used anymore ?
If still used, what mode; USB ?

I read that:

"In 1999, 2182 was replaced by 2187.5 as the International Distress
frequency. This new frequency asisignment is part of the new GMDSS
service required on vessels over 310 tons. Use of 2182 will be phased
out and replaced by digital (DSC) watch on 2187.5."

Is this 2187.5 being used now ?
Is it only digital ?
If not, mode ?

Other maritime distress freq's and modes ?

b. Aero:

What are the aero freq's commonly used for emergencies, and their modes ?

c. What is 11.175 used for ?

Much thanks,
Bob

There is a list of 500kHz and 2 MHz stations and frequencies available
in .PDF format on my website which may be of interest.

Hi Bob:

Really nice site; well done.
Thanks for bringing it to my, and everyone elses attention.

What mode is used on 2182 ?

Guess I'm really confused over all the "private" outfits that are licensed
to
use this freq. I thought it was "only" for emergencies ?
How does this work ?

Regards,
Bob

2182 is monitored but 2187.5 and GMDSS is used for emergency calls. 2182
is and as far as I can remember always been a calling & emergency frequency.

You could do worse than have a look at www.gmdss.com.au which gives all
the information that you are likely to need, they also have an excellent
mailing list that you can subscribe to, with many industry professionals
posting there on a regular basis.

11175 khz is a US Air Force channel. I've heard them do routine numbers
station type things to talking to B-52s about the amount of fuel they had
remaining on their plane.
