what are the differences between RRS and the old CB radio days?

I can think of the similarities.

bullied by jerks
people shout with their linears to overpower the honest nice people
mostly talk about stupid stuff instead of the intended purpose of the
medium

but I am trying to think of differences between RRS and the old lousy
CB days that were so famous because the FCC gave up trying to bring
sanity and order to it. it just seems that RRS is the modern version
of the worst of old CB !

what do you think ?

The biggest difference is that CB didn't have self-appointed jerks like
you trying to "get people thrown out".

No, it's just that self appointed jerk wannabe "moderators" like you
bring out the worst in people.

what do you think ?

I think you should change your name and attitude, come back and try
again.

Have you getting bullied, captain? Pushed around like some poor mope in a
60s biker flick? I hate to break this to you, but usenet ain't for weenies.

And the first rule is -- here, you're only as bullied as you let yourself
be.

Usenet was created young men with big egos. The flame war is the logical
result.

Here's what you might do:

Start your own group. rec.radio.shortwave.moderated

Write the sort of posts you think should be here. Concise, logical posts
are worth considering. Whiney posts are the usenet equivelent of a "Kick
Me" sign.

Get your own usenet linear and out shout them.

There's more channels on RRS than there is on CB.

Worldwide propagation is better here.

There's no TVI here.

Avoiding the BS is easier here than on CB. Except for people who need to
read every post.

what do you think ?

I think you missed out on the daily floods of genuinely offensive material
posted here a year ago.

It was worse. There were drunks running around cutting people's antenna
feeds. Fights in parking lots. Gunplay on the highways.

There was an incident in Portland during the height of the CB craze that
involved cutting coax and murder.. Someone got really irritated at someone
who was a total and unrelenting asshole and decided to go to his house and
cut his coax. Deciding once he got there to confront the person, he banged
on the door and promptly had a double barrelled shotgun unloaded on him
through the closed door..

None of which is the same as contacting the FCC and trying to get your
license revoked, which is the equivalent of contacting someone's ISP
trying to get their account cancelled.

Someone could just as easily cut your phone line/cable line and shoot
you in a parking lot.

Sounds like someone made an incorrect @sshol3 assessment
before banging on the door...

That's an example of taking a coax cutting knife to a gunfight.

The proper way is to put a pin in the coax to short it out.

During the craze, people used to steal CBs from cars.

When the craze was over, a guy put his linear in the front seat of his car. He
parked at a shopping mall and left the window open so someone would take the
unwanted linear.

When he came back the car was gone, but the linear was laying in the middle of
the parking space.

A good replay of an old musician's joke:

An accordian player leaves his accordian in his car on a summer day,
with the doors unlocked. He goes into a restaurant, and midway through
the meal realizes he forgot to lock his car. He runs back outside, but
too late . . . there are already three more accordians in his car.
