Watkins-Johnson WJ-8711A vs ....

Hiya...

I've always been curious to know what it would be like to use a magabuck
professional rig like the Watkins-Johnson WJ-8711A for DX'ing.

Take an R8 or an R-75 and assume that the antenna will be a 200ft long wire
with coax feed, balun and proper grounding. Using radios in that class as a
comparison point, what extra would I get out of a rig like the WJ-8711A for
DX'ing in comparison using the same antenna ???

Also.. Can/Should a rig in the class of a WJ-8711A be hooked up to an
antenna that is so large that it would overload an R8 or R-75 ???

Thanx !!!!

Good question Mike:

I keep buying Lottery tickets; so eventually I'll strike it rich
&
THEN I'll buy A Watkins - Johnson & a farm out in the country &
a decent vehicle to travel to it ( Piper Cub / Lear Jet; Cant decide..) &
build a slew of antennas for the W- J..

- Only a matter of time , BTW..

Let me know what you find out..

you will actually hear stuff on the WJ, that the others don't.
that simple.
I know.

The new third-generation software-defined receivers now provide real
alternative at a fraction of the WJ costs, and have some features that
even the WJ does not have.

See for example this:
