Heathkit SW-7800 madness !

Noticed an unbuilt SW-7800 on Ebay going for... $2075(!). Item number
3089802130 . Not far (on same page) I see JRC NRD-92+NDH-93 for
roughy same amount (including shipping from S.Korea). 32 bids for
SW-7800!!! Larry Magne once rated it as the worst
digital receiver of its time. Are these people insane?

It's not so much that it's an SW-7800. It's because it's unbuilt.
Unbuilt Heathkits are *extremely* rare. Having said that, I wouldn't
pay $2100 for *any* Heathkit, but there are collectors out there!

Drake R8, Radio Shack DX-440,
Grundig S650, S700, S800, YB400
Tecsun PL-230 (YB550PE), Kaito KA1102
Hallicraters S-120 (1962)
Zenith black dial 5 tube Tombstone (1937)
E. H. Scott 23 tube Imperial Allwave in Tasman cabinet (1936)

Guess, these collectors have money to burn. I rather have an
NRD-92. At least Japan Radio Company is still in business...
P.S. May be it is a hoax?

Yeah, anything that costs more than you're willing to pay is always a hoax!

Some people have a bad case of nostalgia but in all fairness, I can
think of a few things I would pay too much for too.

There's collectors for everything and anything! I saw a climbing gear
catalog from the 70's go for $200+ It's a classic and of course I've got a
mint one on the shelf ('74 Chouinard).

What's even crazier? I couldn't bring myself to sell my copy sheepish
grin
