Israel Radio to stop Short Wave broadcasts in the near future

18 April 2004

This article was in today's Hebrew Newspaper " Yediot Achronot ".

The Voice of Israel's overseas broadcasts on shortwave will cease in the
near future.

In the framework of the Israel Broadcasting Authorities financial cuts, it
was decided to relay the broadcasts through the Internet only. This will
create a saving of both frequencies and transmitters etc, which will come to
around about 20 million Shekels ( just under $4,500,000 ) a year.

The IBA Internet site relays Israel TV's Channel 1 , Reshet Bet ( Network
2 ), Reshet Daled ( in Arabic ) and foreign news broadcasts.

Kol Israel has been through this several times of late, hopefully this
is not the one time it will be true.

For those who wish them to remain on the air, send your comments to:
English Department, Israel Radio, PO Box 1082, Jerusalem 91010, Israel

Their website is: http://www.israelradio.org/english.html

This certainly doesn't strike me as the greatest time for Israel to
forego the potential public relations benefits of SW--not for that
saving anyway.

If they'd only stop murdering their neighbours, a large amount of the
American welfare money they receive could be diverted to maintaining
their radio services.

If only their neighbours would stop murdering them perhaps there might be
some kind of peace!

So what's Canada's excuse regarding their SW service?

This is dumb enough to be a troll but with you it can be hard to tell.
Just for starters:

- Maybe if they went to Windpower electricity generation Like WBCQ is doing

http://www.wbcq.com

maybe They , and other Shortwave broadcasters
might stay on the air !

The money flow should be cut off to EVERY country in the middle east
until they sort things out. Egypt gets money too. The biggest problem,
as I see it, is that some of the Israeli billions get rechanneled back
to the people who provide it.

American welfare money goes through a few hands and winds up in
'contributions' to politicians or their causes. There's absolutely no
desire to change things and the kickbacks continue. How many other
countries send money to the Middle East in general and Israel in
particular? Lots of them.

There are enough things that need fixing at home without continuing what
appears to be an elaborate and corrupt money laundering practice. This
has been going on since the late forties or early fifties.

The American taxpayer deserves better than what they are getting
