Death by Medicine

I heard someone on shortwave recently mention "Death by Medicine" and
thought it might be a play on a report I read some time back entitled
"Death by Doctoring". I decided to do a Google search for "Death by
Medicine" and got hundreds of hits - over 700.

I went to the first one on the list and read a brief report linked to
the bottom of that first page. Part of that report follows:

"Number of physicians in the US = 700,000
Accidental deaths caused by physicians per year = 120,000
Accidental deaths per physician = 0.171

Number of gun owners in the US = 80,000,000
Number of accidental gun deaths per year (all age groups) = 1,500
Accidental deaths per gun owner = 0.0000188

Therefore, doctors are approximately 9,000 times more dangerous than gun
owners. "

Oh, the URL: http://www.mercola.com/2000/may/14/doctor_accidents.htm

That's great: You just proved that surgery is more dangerous than walking
down the street. I had no idea!

A peversely false analogy, because doctor-caused deliberate killings are
very few, while gun-related non-accidental fatalities are extremely
numerous, as any big-city resident can tell you.

All this is off-topic, but gun-nuts should be screwed down every time they
get loose.

I'll be sure to ask my doctor is he's armed before asking questions
about his diagnosis.

I have listened to a number of programs related to medicine. I didn't
know you were a program listener.

Yes! In fact, the "Doctors will kill you" topic is hard to avoid on US
domestic shortwave radio. There are several almost literate hosts who
dedicate their shows to exposing the evils of established medical practice.
Most of the antiestablished medicine hosts are kinda boring and unmemorable.
However, among them was one of SW radio's greatest conspiranoics, Len
Horowitz D.D.S. Dr. Len insisted that hospitals were infiltrated by the
Nazi Party wing of the New World Order. These Nazi MDs were murdering
people so the Illuminati could steal their victim's property. And let's not
forget Dr. Len's opposite number, Tom Valentine, who's been selling right
wing antisemitic theories, along with the pills and health nostrums, for
over a thousand years.

Well, Tom Valentine sounds like he's at least thousand years old.

No one used the word DELIBERATE except you. Does it really matter if it
is deliberate or not -- if you're dead?

All this is off-topic,

If you will recall this is rec.radio.shortwave and I was reporting what
I had heard on short wave radio and THEN proceeded to follow it up with
a web search, since shortwave radio doesn't have a rewind or instant
replay button. ;-)
