UAE finally audible in US

after a long time (a couple of years at least I think) I am finally able to
pick up the UAE on 13675 khz at 2:55 UTC perhaps the bad SW reception cycle
is coming to an end? they are playing a song by a famous singer named
Fairouz... hopefully it will not fade out before the short english program
starts... I'm listening to it on my 1938 Zenith 9S262 console radio with a
long wire antenna hung outside my window...

forgot to mention I'm in Minnesota and UAE radio in Dubai has not been
audible to me in a few years, but it's coming in pretty good tonight... good
musical selection right now...

Finally audible to you perhaps! They are pretty regular.

Congrats on getting it though.

Thanks for the congrats :-) If I remember right you are in Michigan? I
wonder if you being several hundred miles to the east of me makes their
signal regular for you but not for me? I wonder if the huge lake in between
MN/WI and MI makes a difference in the ability (or lack there of) for me to
receive signals that might be strong in MI... I know when I travel to
LaCrosse WI, I can receive signals there quite well that I can barely get
here...

That is interesting... propagation can do strange things.

yeah propagation is quite unpredictable at times from what I gather...
6 minutes into the UAE's english program the signal faded out completely for
me (about 3:36 UTC)

They went out here at about 0344... nosedived right away.

what would cause a signal to fade so quickly? it nosedived just the same for
me about 8 minutes before it did for you... it's as if the signal was
receeding across the country towards the east quickly... I know the sun can
have quite an effect on SW signals, and since it's about 7:50 AM there now,
could the sun coming up there have suddenly effected the propigation of
their signal from their transmitter causing the signal to weaken suddenly?
radio waves and their behavior has always facinated and frusterated me at
the same time...
thanks for your replies.

Might have been sunrise or it might have been something else!

Hard to say.
