Heard Nairobi airport on SSB mode in 11 Mhz band. I am surprised HF
is still used for ATC. I would think VHF would be the good mode of transmission. Any ideas? |

No VHF repeaters in the middle of the ocean ;-)

Actually, they DO have the money. It is collected from user charges - but as usual this money is spirited away by what passes for Government in Africa. Usually ends up in private bank account. As a result Air Traffic Control in Africa is a joke!!!! |

They have plenty of money, I get emails all the times telling me that this
guy or another has $25,000,000 that they don't know what do do with. I should reply next time and tell them to spend a few million on fixing up their country. "tommyknocker" wrote in message ... Be sure to give them all your personal information. -- Telamon Ventura, California |

We're talking long distance stuff here... the airports in Africa generally use the same VHF frequencies as everyone else... But once they are out of range of a particular airport, HF comes into play. |

All jokes aside, it is interesting to note that ATC were talking to
Royal Dutch Airlines on that frequency. I guess aircrafts have VHF as well as HF radios onboard. Steve is right about 11300 kHz USB. N8KDV wrote in message ...
