![]() Actually, there are two major differences between the Tecsun BCL-2000 and the Grundig S-350. The BCL-2000 has a small AC powersupply built in. It uses the same kind of power cord as used by a number of European portable radios, such as the old Grundig Satellit 400 and the Philips D-2999. The Chinese supplier and one or two American suppliers send along a small 220V to 120V converter that plugs into your wall outlet and the radio's cord plugs in there. On the Grundig S-350, they leave that power supply out and cover its hole with a heavy flexible piece of plastic that matches the rest of the back panel of the radio. Both the S-350 and the BCL-2000 have the same power plug on the back panel where you would plug in a power source, such as a car adapter that might plug into the cigarette lighter. The S-350 comes with a heavy wall wart to plug in there for the AC power. The other main difference is in the medium wave, (AM broadcast band) coverage. The BCL-2000 covers MW from about 520 up to about 1640 KHz, maybe almost to 1650. The S-350 covers from 520 to 1710 KHz, which gives you all the extended North American broadcast band frequencies. I have both versions, the black S-350 and the red BCL-2000. The Tecsun version seems to be a tiny bit less noisy in the lower frequencies of the lowest shortwave band, from about 2300 KHz up to about 5500 KHz than is the S-350 I have. They are essentialy equal on the other frequencies they know in common. The amplifier seems to be a bit stronger with more volume of output at a given volume knob setting on my S-350 than on my BCL-2000. If I had to keep only one of the two, I think I'd sell the Tecsun BCL-2000. Reply to: Brent Reynolds, Atlanta, GA USA |
