Sorry about that. I seem to have some 'cut and paste confusion' going on
in the computer.

PROSSER, Wash. -- A high school student in Prosser, Washington, got a
visit from the Secret Service when his art teacher saw his artwork and
contacted school officials who in turn contacted the police. The
15-year-old's artwork depicted George W. Bush as the devil launching
missiles, while another picture showed Bush's head on a pike. The
student was questioned, but not arrested.

Looks to me like the cops and Secret Service were simply doing the job
they are expected to do. The school voiced concerns and the Secret Service
is obligated to check out threats to the president that are brought to
their attention, even if it looks like a waste of time going in. However,
they never know when they may have another Hinkley on their hands, so they
have to at least make contact and get some kind of impression. This sounds
exactly like what they did - made the mandatory standard contact with the
kid and left it at that.

The big question is why did the school notify the police over this kid's
artwork? The school is probably more familiar with the kid than the police
or feds. Now why would the school, who is presumably familiar with the
kid, call the cops? Hmmmm...

-=jd=-

One word will answer it ...... LIABILITY. If the kid does anything
violent and it is found the school saw his pictures and did nothing
they become, in our society, the responsible party. In my days as a
student, the teacher would've notified the Principal and they would've
called the parents ........ but that was back when a higher percentage
of parents actually parented. Well, that's my take on it.

Aren't you the optimistic one!

The Liberal View will apparently not be satisfied with anything less

Bush's head on a pike.

Actually, I think they'd be satisfied with RUMSFELD'S head

MWB - Brenda Lee said it best:
- I'm Sorry, So Sorry
- Please Accept My Apology

LYRICS to I'M SORRY:
http://www.lyrics007.com/Lee%20Brenda%20Lyrics/I'm%20Sorry%20Lyrics.html
I'm sorry, so sorry
That I was such a fool
I didn't know
Love could be so cruel
Oh oh oh oh uh-oh oh yes
You tell me mistakes
Are part of being young
But that don't right
The wrong that's been done
(I'm sorry) I'm sorry
(So sorry) So sorry
Please accept my apology
But love is blind
And I was to blind to see.
Oh oh oh oh uh-oh oh yes
You tell me mistakes
Are part of being young
But that don't right
The wrong that's been done
Oh oh oh oh uh-oh oh yes
I'm sorry, so sorry
Please accept my apology
But love was blind
And I was too blind to see
.. . . Sorry

Liability could be part of it. It could also be the kid has given the
teachers reason to be concerned about him before. We will probably never
know exactly. He was checked out and that appears to be the end of it.

As far as I'm concerned, it's a non-issue.

There may be more to it.. but there doesn't have to be. When I was in high
school, back in the early 70's, there were a lot of bomb threats happening
in places all over the country..

Our prinicipal was a moron, and very long winded. He would spend 15 minutes
on the PA each morning droning on and on about some sort of useless drivel
that neither us nor the teachers wanted to hear.

Well, I had an extremely rare moment of inspiration, and drew a crude
political cartoon combining these two issues. In the first panel, the front
of the school was shown, with a speech bubble showing the principal
prattling on. Second panel was much the same (blah blah blah hadn't been
invented yet, so I used some of his actual droning). Third panel showed the
school going up with a big boom. Fourth one showed a PA speaker dangling by
it's wires from a column in the middle of the mess, still droning.. and then
ending up by saying "Oh, yes, and by the way, we've had a bomb threat."

The cartoon was meant to make light of the principal and his lack of
priority and boring nature, but my homeroom teacher didn't think much of it.
She confiscated it, and the next thing I knew, I was talking to FBI agents
from Portland..

And I was a B+ average student, and never caused any sort of trouble.. how
much more 'cautious' must schools be now...

That's a pretty observant cartoon. You may have missed your calling.
