Aren't you the optimistic one!

Yes I am. I figure that sooner or later the Fat Boy's doctor will hit upon just
the right combination of meds and that he'll finally get his sorry life
straightened out.

But I'm not holding my breath until I turn blue either!

The secret service is already hunting down children who thought of that.

Oh there's more confusion going on than that! Don't you have things to worry about in Canada? Or is it just that absolutely
NOTHING happens there and you have to focus your thoughts on the USA?

For a country which you seem to have such little regard for you certainly seem to focus an inordinate amount of time on us!

Looks to me like the cops and Secret Service were simply doing the job
they are expected to do. The school voiced concerns and the Secret Service
is obligated to check out threats to the president that are brought to
their attention, even if it looks like a waste of time going in. However,
they never know when they may have another Hinkley on their hands, so they
have to at least make contact and get some kind of impression. This sounds
exactly like what they did - made the mandatory standard contact with the
kid and left it at that.

The big question is why did the school notify the police over this kid's
artwork? The school is probably more familiar with the kid than the police
or feds. Now why would the school, who is presumably familiar with the
kid, call the cops? Hmmmm...

Pssssst.... you're asking to many of the right questions.

One word will answer it ...... LIABILITY. If the kid does anything
violent and it is found the school saw his pictures and did nothing
they become, in our society, the responsible party. In my days as a
student, the teacher would've notified the Principal and they would've
called the parents ........ but that was back when a higher percentage
of parents actually parented. Well, that's my take on it.

Liability could be part of it. It could also be the kid has given the
teachers reason to be concerned about him before. We will probably never
know exactly. He was checked out and that appears to be the end of it.

As far as I'm concerned, it's a non-issue.

-=jd=-

There may be more to it.. but there doesn't have to be. When I was in high
school, back in the early 70's, there were a lot of bomb threats happening
in places all over the country..

Our prinicipal was a moron, and very long winded. He would spend 15 minutes
on the PA each morning droning on and on about some sort of useless drivel
that neither us nor the teachers wanted to hear.

Well, I had an extremely rare moment of inspiration, and drew a crude
political cartoon combining these two issues. In the first panel, the front
of the school was shown, with a speech bubble showing the principal
prattling on. Second panel was much the same (blah blah blah hadn't been
invented yet, so I used some of his actual droning). Third panel showed the
school going up with a big boom. Fourth one showed a PA speaker dangling by
it's wires from a column in the middle of the mess, still droning.. and then
ending up by saying "Oh, yes, and by the way, we've had a bomb threat."

The cartoon was meant to make light of the principal and his lack of
priority and boring nature, but my homeroom teacher didn't think much of it.
She confiscated it, and the next thing I knew, I was talking to FBI agents
from Portland..

And I was a B+ average student, and never caused any sort of trouble.. how
much more 'cautious' must schools be now... :(

I want Rumsfeld /and/ Cheney's.

For starters.

Did anyone else notice that "military" and "Army" and all sorts
of people were mentioned over and over and over.

Now, I missed the first 3 or 4 minutes of Rumsfeld's comments so
maybe he said "and contractors".

Did he?

If not, why not? Contractors have been accused just as well as
GI's.

Why don't we start with the resignation - forced resignation, if
necessary - of any high-level executives in the United States
government who - present or past - had any close associations
with the main contractor involved in the allegations being made.

That is, of course, Halliburton.

The stench of the apparent corruption made me sick (not a joke -
I felt like throwing up).

And I - like many, many others saw this coming; it was obvious,
boys and girls.

Remember when the President and Commander-in-Chief start making
sweeping statements about who was - and, more importantly, was
NOT - subject to the Geneva Convention as PW's (Prisoners of

It's going to be "interesting" to see if charges of "war crimes"

And, if so, against whom.

(bow) Thank you.

What's interesting is, when I post that I'm ignoring him, it
apparently provokes him to attack me. Which I don't see because
I'm not opening his posts. Which, once he realizes that, makes
him angrier still and he attacks me again. Which I *still*

What surprised me the most was the lack of the inquisitors to register any
sustainable fault with the corrective actions taken so far. It would
appear the only sustainable beef the committe had was that they were not
informed in a timely manner. The corrective actions already taken and
under way seem to be more than adequate and the committee members seemed a
bit frustrated that there was nothing they could complain about - other
than they weren't in the loop. Almost as if they were ****ed that they
didn't have the opportunity to sternly and with full righteous indignation
towards the Generals, order them to do what they were already doing.

One got the impression they felt cheated out of a few satisfying
"Harrumphs!"

My overall response was: "Uh, guys; these people aren't professionals".

Bush and crew really appear to need adult leadership very, very badly.

I think I was residing in a lovely city in the Central Highlands the last

That time it was President Nixon.

Actually, I think they'd be satisfied with RUMSFELD'S head

Remember when the President and Commander-in-Chief start making
sweeping statements about who was - and, more importantly, was
NOT - subject to the Geneva Convention as PW's (Prisoners of
War)?

It's going to be "interesting" to see if charges of "war crimes"
and "crimes against humanity" are going to be brought.

And, if so, against whom.

I think I was residing in a lovely city in the Central Highlands the last
time I heard this musical question: "Would you buy a used war from this man".

That time it was President Nixon.

But this time it was Bush's war from the start, and all gleaming new and
shiny and running well one short year ago.
